The Creative Fund
Is Your Studio's Next Move.
A practical breakdown of how Nigerian animation studios can apply for project-first grants through the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub's Creative Fund.
What Is The Creative Fund?
Funded by the UK government (FCDO) and administered through the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub, this is a direct grant for Nigerian creative businesses — and animation falls squarely under the Film sector.
The fund was created after research revealed that Nigeria's creative economy employs 4.2 million people and contributes approximately US$3 billion to GDP, yet fewer than 10% of practitioners access formal financing, and high-value technical work — like VFX and animation — is routinely outsourced abroad. The Creative Fund exists to change that.
How Your Studio Benefits
Here are five concrete ways the Creative Fund can move the needle for a Nigerian animation studio.
Fund Your Technical Pipeline
Get grants to cover the exact costs holding your project back:
- VFX artists & animators
- Software licences (Maya, Blender, Adobe)
- Post-production & sound design
- AI-integrated production tools
- Colour grading & editing
Animation Is Explicitly Covered
The Film sector under this fund specifically includes animation, post-production, colour grading, editing, and sound design — the full technical pipeline from shoot to screen. You are the target.
Build Your Talent Pipeline
Every funded project embeds 2–5 mid-career creatives with real experience into your studio. The fund helps cover their costs while you gain structured talent development at no extra risk.
Give-Back = Industry Reputation
Your embedded talent must carry out at least one give-back activity — masterclasses, pro bono work, or workshops. This positions your studio as a leader in Nigeria's animation ecosystem.
Keep High-Value Work in Nigeria
The entire point of the fund is to stop the drain of Nigeria's best creative work going abroad. If your studio is outsourcing VFX, colour grading, or animation services to international vendors — this grant is literally designed to fix that for you. Apply with a clear description of what you currently outsource and why you need support to bring it in-house.
Three Tiers. Pick Your Fit.
Grant size is flexible and based on the scope and ambition of your project. There's a track for every stage of studio growth.
Core Project Grant
For emerging or smaller studios with a specific, clearly defined technical gap. Ideal if this is your first high-quality production pipeline.
Growth Project Grant
For studios with an established track record, ready to deliver larger placements and broader give-back activities within the sector.
Collaborative Grant
For partnerships between multiple creative organisations working toward a shared animated output with wider ecosystem impact.
Eight Requirements. All Mandatory.
Check every single box before you apply. Missing one disqualifies your application.
Your project is based in Nigeria and falls within the Film sector (animation qualifies).
You have a specific, identifiable technical gap — a role or resource currently being outsourced abroad or unavailable in-house.
Your organisation is a registered company — studio, production house, or creative entity — with a verifiable business presence in Nigeria.
You can attach 2–5 mid-career creatives (2+ years relevant experience, not entry-level) to your project for structured hands-on work.
You commit to at least one give-back activity during the programme, carried out by your embedded creatives.
Your project can actively commence within the programme period: April 2026 – January 2027.
You agree to comply with UK-Nigeria Tech Hub brand and communications standards as encoded in the grant agreement.
You agree to submit monthly progress reports and financial records (receipts and invoices) to Tech4Dev.
