The Workshop

Knowing how to create is only half the battle. Knowing how to protect what you create is what builds a lasting industry.
In 2019, Animation Nigeria partnered with leading Nigerian law firm Jackson, Etti & Edu, international creative consultancy Pritivio, and the African Animation Network to host a dedicated session on Intellectual Property rights within the Nigerian animation space and why it matters now more than ever.
The event was open to the public, welcoming animators, content creators, and studio owners from across the Nigerian creative sector for an eye-opening conversation about the legal side of the industry that too many creators overlook.

What We Covered

The session tackled the real questions Nigerian animation creators face every day — how to protect original characters and stories, how to navigate copyright law, how to structure contracts as a studio or freelancer, and how to build creative businesses that are not just artistically strong but legally sound.

More Than a Workshop

For many attendees, this was their first real encounter with the legal frameworks that govern their work. The session demystified IP law, made it accessible, and sent creators home with practical knowledge they could apply immediately.
