The Workshop
Building a sustainable animation industry takes more than talented creators. It takes the right knowledge, the right connections, and the right systems. That was exactly the spirit behind the Capacity-Blooming Workshop — two days dedicated to growing the Nigerian animation industry from the inside out.
The Event Held on 12th – 13th April 2023 at Alliance Française Lagos, the workshop was organised by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and coordinated by Rubika Animation School and Circuit.ng — bringing international expertise and local industry knowledge together under one roof.
Who Was in the Room
What made this workshop truly special was the diversity of voices around the table. Animation studios, school and university representatives, legal experts, and Bank of Industry representatives all came together — each bringing a different perspective on what it takes to grow a creative industry at scale.
This was not just a gathering of animators. It was a gathering of an entire ecosystem.
What We Explored
Over two days, participants dug deep into the real opportunities and challenges facing the Nigerian animation industry — and more importantly, proposed practical solutions from a capacity-building perspective. Producers and experts left with new knowledge, fresh insights, and concrete strategies they could take back to their studios, classrooms, and boardrooms.
More Than a Workshop
The Capacity-Blooming Workshop was a bold statement of international confidence in Nigerian animation. When AFD, one of France’s leading development agencies, invests in bringing this level of expertise and resource to Lagos, it signals something important — that the world sees what we see in this industry.
Animation Nigeria is grateful to AFD, Rubika Animation School, Alliance Française Lagos, Circuit.ng, and every producer and expert who attended and contributed to making this a resounding success.
Together, we will build a more robust and sustainable animation industry in Nigeria.
